This photo was taken one boring night during the Covid-19 lockdown. I slowly started to fall in love with photography, living vicariously through YouTube videos of people shooting street photography and film. I was alone in my room at 3 am with the urge to take pictures. I set up my TV in the dark, displaying various backgrounds while using my iPad as a light panel. The only camera I had was an old Canon Rebel XS so I had no way to see the final composition in front of the camera. Experimenting by myself that night ignited an unending passion for photography in me.

Why the Canon M50?
I chose the Canon M50 because the Viltrox Speedbooster greatly improves the camera's functionality. With the Viltrox Speedbooster, I can use older Canon EF full-frame lenses, allowing me to explore a variety of focal lengths at an affordable cost. All of the lenses I’ve bought have been under $200! Not only that, but because the optics in the Speedbooster compress the light from a full-frame lens into a cropped APS-C sensor, the f-stop on all my EF lenses is slightly wider than it would be on a full-frame DSLR. In other words, the Speedbooster allows more light to enter my camera when using full-frame lenses, which improves its performance in low-light conditions! Lastly, if I were to upgrade to a Canon full-frame mirrorless camera, Canon makes a variety of lens adapters that work great and add even more functionality to the lenses, ensuring my decision to choose the Canon M50 is future-proof.
The Covid-19 Photobook
This was the project that helped me fall in love with photography. It was 2019, and I was studying Digital Media at the University of Houston. We started online classes, and our final project in my photography class was to make a photobook. That was the first time I experimented with my old Canon Rebel XS. It was challenging to take pictures of myself without a screen to compose the image, but I figured that as long as I could see the light coming through my viewfinder in front of the lens, then I must be in frame. I experimented with long exposure and flash to show motion and a sense of urgency. I am very proud of this project, and I’m so grateful that I was able to find a lifelong passion.
